What's Happening & Why?
Welcome to 2010! It's been over four years since we have upgraded our server hardware. We are overdue and can not delay any longer. This change will enable us to make the much needed upgrades and changes in software as well.
These changes will:
- Improve security- adding new firewall
- Improve spam detection and blocking- Newest software available
- Improve your online control panel with more website and e-mail control
- Double capacity and double the speed (Quad Core CPU's, w/8MB RAM)
- Significant functionality enhancements through upgraded PHP 5 and other hosting platform software.
This is a complete physical server change, meaning that we will have new IP address. Because we are also upgrading to PHP 5.3, your web applications may need upgrading too. The online access to your control panel is changing as is your webmail software and access.
This is a significant and complex undertaking, but if KO is managing your website(s), we will take care of everything for you and there should not be any interruptions. When it's time, KO's staff will contact you and inform you of any changes in logins and other details.
If you host your own E-mail, please forward this e-mails onto your IT person ASAP. KO will contact you/them to work out MX changes, transition details and dates.
If KO does NOT manage your website, please send this e-mail to your IT department and or web editor immediately. They need to contact us as soon as possible for software version details and hosting change coordination dates.
When will this happen? We started setup last week and will start moving our first commercial clients today. We are starting with the smaller websites first and working our way up as we go. You will be contacted by phone (or email if transition is transparent) as we move your website. We expect this transition to take up to 60 days, as we are moving sites one by one to ensure software compatibility and minimal interruptions. |
