| How to prepare for a
new website: Domain
Name registration-
A domain name is www.mycompany.com or .org/.net/.TV ,etc. Keep
in mind that the shorter the name, the less expensive to print
on signage and easier for people to remember. We highly
recommend talking with us before selecting a domain name,
because there are some other very important issues to consider.
To search if a particular domain name is available, click here
or just ask us and we'll find out for you.
Purpose of your new website-
Think about why you are building a website and what you want it
to accomplish. Most reasons seem obvious, but a well thought out
objective will save you money and insure a successful project.
Some ideas to get you thinking are: What is the image you want
to convey? Do you want to sell items or services on your
website? Do you need to be able to accept credit cards online?
Will clients access your website to see samples? Are you trying
to get new business, sales leads from your site? Do you care
about keeping the website fast-loading for slow connections? Or
do you need a graphical/media intensive website? Do you require
both?
Design style-
What colors and theme do you like? Corporate style? Cartoon?
Artsy? Industrial? Combination? What websites have you seen that
you like and don't like? Do you want FLASH animation? Do you
want to use audio voice presentations? Do you want forms for
customers to fill out? Do you want a section that YOU can update
yourself? Do you need a database? A shopping cart?
Text-
Gather text and brochures that you
already have assembled. Having this material on disc will save
time and cost. Write down some key slogans and points you'd like
to emphasize.
Photos-
Gather photos you may want to include on your website. Do they
need to be edited or scanned? Or do you have digital copies?
Graphics-
Gather Logos and other artwork you may want on the website. If
you don't have a logo, this is a good time to design one. With
our partners at Dolphin Graphics, we can help you with this as
well.
Video/Commercials-
Do you have videos or audio you want to add to your website.
Although this may add to your website hosting cost because of
the bandwidth demands, we find it a very effective marketing
technique. If you a have a TV commercial already made, we highly
recommend placing it on your website.
Voice Over's In Flash-
If you're thinking you may want to add voice audio, we'll need to
write a script. What's your message? We have professional
writers, editors and voice actors on staff to assist you in
this.
Layout mapping-
Site navigation is one of the fundamental issues to consider.
One thing to consider is, do you want to take the viewers on a
"tour" or let them navigate around your website at their
leisure?
E-mail Accounts-
Do you want E-mail accounts that match your domain name
(name@yourcompany.com)? Do you want this
E-mail "forwarded to your existing E-mail
accounts, or do you want to set up new accounts?
If you take the time to review the above list and prepare
yourself, you'll save substantial cost and time! |
